The short version
File Index is local-first.
File Index does not send your filenames, file contents, folder paths, security-scoped bookmarks, indexed metadata, search queries, LifeBox information, Cleanup decisions, or duplicate information to Anyora Home.
File Index does not include advertising, third-party advertising SDKs, cross-app tracking, or analytics SDKs.
Your files remain in their existing locations. File Index does not upload them to Anyora Home.
Information File Index uses on your Mac
When you choose a folder or other supported Location, File Index may create and maintain a local index containing information needed for its features, such as:
- file and folder names;
- folder paths and Location information;
- file types and extensions;
- file sizes and dates;
- local, cloud, unavailable, or other file-availability information;
- information needed to remember selected Locations and their authorization;
- File Index state such as LifeBox filing, Groups, Today review state, Cleanup marks, and related preferences;
- local evidence used to identify and verify exact duplicate files or folders; and
- other technical information needed to maintain a truthful local index.
This information is stored locally in File Index's app-managed storage on your Mac.
File contents and duplicate verification
File Index may read the bytes of a locally available file when necessary for an explicit supported feature, such as verifying that two files are exact copies.
Exact-duplicate verification is performed locally on your Mac. File contents and duplicate-verification data are not uploaded to Anyora Home.
File Index does not intentionally download or hydrate an online-only cloud file merely to search it, index its ordinary metadata, or perform background duplicate verification.
Cloud-drive files
File Index can work with supported cloud-drive Locations made available through macOS.
For online-only or otherwise unavailable files, File Index uses information that can be observed safely without intentionally downloading the file. Some actions may therefore be unavailable until the file becomes locally available.
File Index does not operate a cloud storage service and does not copy your files to Anyora Home.
Your cloud provider may separately process your files according to the provider's own terms and privacy policy.
Location permissions
File Index accesses only Locations that you choose and authorize through macOS.
macOS security-scoped authorization may be stored locally so File Index can continue to access an approved Location after relaunch.
If you remove a Location, File Index removes the ordinary authorization and indexed source data associated with that Location according to the app's removal behavior.
If a Location has used one of File Index's free lifetime Location choices, the minimum local record needed to remember that claimed choice may remain after the Location itself is removed. This allows File Index to recognize the same claimed Location if you choose to add it again. This record remains on your Mac and is not sent to Anyora Home.
Search, LifeBox, Today, and Cleanup
Search queries and Search results are processed locally.
LifeBox filing information, Groups, Today review decisions, Cleanup marks, and related File Index state are stored locally.
A Cleanup mark is File Index metadata. It does not itself delete, move, rename, or upload the underlying file.
Analytics, advertising, and tracking
File Index does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
Anyora Home does not use File Index to track you across apps or websites.
File Index does not send usage analytics, advertising identifiers, search activity, filenames, paths, file contents, or indexed file information to Anyora Home.
Purchases
If you purchase the File Index lifetime unlock, the transaction is processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit.
File Index receives the transaction and entitlement information needed to determine whether the lifetime unlock is available. Anyora Home does not receive your payment card number through File Index.
Apple's handling of App Store purchases is governed by Apple's own privacy practices.
Support communications
If you contact Anyora Home for support, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address and the contents of your message.
Please do not send private documents, file contents, or sensitive screenshots unless they are necessary for your support request and you are comfortable sharing them.
We use support communications to respond to your request and to diagnose or improve File Index. We retain them only as reasonably necessary for support, business records, security, or legal obligations.
You may ask us to delete support information that we control, subject to information we must retain for legal or legitimate business purposes.
The File Index website
The File Index pages on anyorahome.com are delivered through web-hosting and security infrastructure, including Cloudflare.
Like most web infrastructure, these services may process ordinary technical request information such as IP address, browser and device information, requested page, timestamps, and security information needed to deliver and protect the website.
The File Index website does not receive the private file index stored by the File Index app.
Anyora Home does not use the File Index website for behavioral advertising or cross-site tracking.
Data retention and deletion
File Index's app data is primarily stored locally on your Mac.
You can remove individual Locations using File Index's Location controls. You may also remove File Index and its app-managed data through normal macOS mechanisms.
Certain local state deliberately survives an ordinary Location removal when required to preserve a user decision, including the minimum record of a previously claimed free lifetime Location choice.
Because File Index does not upload your private file index to Anyora Home, there is no server-side copy of that index for Anyora Home to delete.
For information you voluntarily send to Anyora Home, such as a support email, you may contact us to request deletion where applicable.
Children
File Index is a general-purpose macOS application. It is not designed to collect personal information from children, and the app does not transmit a user's private file index to Anyora Home.
Security
File Index is designed to minimize data exposure by keeping its index and file-processing operations on your Mac and by using macOS authorization for the Locations you select.
No method of electronic storage or software security can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but File Index is designed to avoid unnecessary collection and transmission of private file information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if File Index's features, legal requirements, or data practices change.
If a change materially affects how File Index handles information, we will update this page and its "Last updated" date.
